Twin Buttes

EXPLORE THE TWIN BUTTES
Join the Muleteam on Saturday, December 6 to explore the Twin Buttes of the Sulfur Spring Valley with a chance to view the Sonoran-Chihuahuan desert up close.  This is a reverse migration hike from our leader’s house on Oro Road, off Route 80 between Bisbee and Douglas.  We go south across the desert under a fence and ending at the formation of limestone straddling Route 80. There are many fossils embedded in the limestone butte, which was supposedly above the water line during one of the episodes of the Sulfur Springs Valley being covered with water. The route is mostly flat, total elevation gain 300 feet with out and back mileage of 3-4 miles. Back by about noon. Bring water and a snack. Dogs welcome. Meet at the Bisbee Courthouse fountain at 9:00am to carpool. For any questions, call Steve at sss@theriver.com.
