San Pedro Backtrack

BACKTRACK - San Pedro

Fourteen  hikers and three dogs, including a miniature dachshund, hiked while five old timers including Loretta, Gary and Gretchen, and Lynn and Monroe attended just the pot luck. A highlight for the hikers was seeing the red and black Vermilion Flycatcher at Kingfisher pond while the dogs enjoyed wading in two ponds and the River. John Wasser’s homemade ice cream was the finale at the pot luck and stole the show.

Thanks to Larry for bringing the plates and eating utensils and to Laura Mackin, manager of the Bookstore, for helping to arrange for the use of the Ramada and loaning us the tablecloths.
So long until next year.  -John B

BACKTRACK - Natural Bridge
A group of nine cheerful, happy Muleteamers journeyed to the Chiricahua National Monument Saturday for the 4.8 round trip hike to the viewpoint of the Natural Bridge. The entire hike was scenic with the rock pinnacles always in view. We all ate lunch at the overlook after having some nice rests on the way, including in the shade at Picket Park. One of the veteran hikers to this area told us the Monument campground was just 1/4 mile past the arch by bushwhacking. He would not go back that way to prove it to us, so we all hiked back down the trail and met at the end in the shade near the parking area.

A group photo, minus the hike leader who took the photo, is at Shutterfly, along with a photo of our long rest stop in Picket Park. - Molly
