CARR HOUSE FAMILY VISIT & HIKE
Join the Muleteam this Saturday May 4th to be treated to a free personalized educational presentation by Mike Foster, Muleteam old-timer and host of Carr House Information Center in the Huachuca Mountains. After our time with Mike at Carr House, he will lead us on a short and easy nature and history hiking trail. This will be a very unusual Muleteam day, with families and children welcome. There are picnic facilities and natural and cultural history displays and games. Meet at 9:00am on May 4th at the Courthouse fountain for carpooling. Take Route 80 to 92 from the Bisbee Circle toward Sierra Vista, then turn on Carr Canyon Road for 2.2 miles to Carr House. For questions, contact Mike at sarjuesos@gmail.com

BACKTRACK - Miller Peak
Five hikers enjoyed lovely vistas while traversing the ridgeline of the southernmost range of the Huachucas.  The weather was cool and breezy, perfect for a long, strenuous hike up to Miller peak.  Three hikers reached the peak and were awed by the 360 degree view of Cochise County and Mexico.  Cananea stockpile, Parker Lake, Dragoon and Mount Wrightson were visible on the horizon.  The three hikers that made it to the peak arrived back just in time to watch a beautiful sunset accompanied with a large hawk floating stationary in the air currents and then suddenly taking a sharp dive right after the sun went down. - Carol

BACKTRACK - Parker Canyon Lake
It may get a little boring and repetitive when we go on about how great Muleteam hikes are, but April 20th brought out the best of our 24 years in every way. The weather was perfect with warm blue skies and a mild breeze. The lake was a joy to see with many families boating, fishing and having a great time. Most importantly, we had 17 people joining us with almost half newcomers, a wonderful experience to be joined by new friends. As a great reward, most of us topped the day off with a well-earned visit to the Hops and Vines winery in Sonoita for an hour of wine-tasting and relaxation. Did I say this was a perfect day?  - Doug

Join the Muleteam this Saturday April 20th for a scenic hike around the shores of one of the few lakes in the Sonoita area. Meet April 20th at 9am by the Old Bisbee courthouse fountain to carpool. This is a very scenic drive of about 1½ hours through beautiful country on the west side of the Huachucas. BACKTRACK - Art Stairs
20 people did some obscure stairs and paths in the hills of Old Bisbee to see murals, mosaics, sculptures, interesting ruins and scenery. The weather was perfect, and only a few people got lost temporarily. A highlight was Tad's house and her Bill Mead mural where she took the group photo. Sharing this hike with friends and neighbors renewed our appreciation of the special place we live. We walked around and looked and took photos...and talked!  Fun morning with a fun group. - Larry

BACKTRACK - Picacho Peak
What a trip! Twelve campers and one dog met at Picacho Peak State Park to begin the weekend. The cold wind howled (and I mean howled!) all evening preventing a campfire and making the set-up of tents almost impossible. After some time and some helping hands, four tents were erected and three actually made it through the night without blowing down (sorry Jan). The wind didn't, however, prevent us from having a great potluck dinner and enjoying each other's company. It rained on and off overnight. Saturday was clear and sunny for our big hike.

It’s a nice feeling of accomplishment to be able to look at a landmark peak every time one heads to Casa Grande or points north and think, “I have stood at the pinnacle of that peak”. Nine of us now get to do that,  having hiked and rock scrambled up the Sunset Vista trail to Picacho Peak. Two other hikers had the pleasure of experiencing the real Arizona landscape with saguaros, and brittle brush and other wild flowers in bloom on part of the trail.

After lunch on the top, we took the Hunter Trail down from the summit and had the surprise of having a significant uphill portion, with some of the toughest cabled section terrain of the day. After that we reached what is referred to as the saddle before actually heading downhill on the trail on the east side of the peak. I am not sure if going up Sunset Vista and going down Hunter was the best way to do the hike, but it was nice to experience both trails. It was all beautiful as you will see from the photos.

After a fine dinner of potluck leftovers, we enjoyed a campfire complete with s'mores. We were treated with a spectacular view of the SpaceX launch to top off a great trip.  - Sandy & Molly
