BACKTRACK - Boquillas Ranch
15 Mules and 6 dogs enjoyed an easy, flat hike to the San Pedro River. Six miles round trip in perfect weather. Along the way there was a stop at the Little Boquillas Ranch, an  old cattle station with several historic features. We explored some of the old buildings then continued on. Lunch along the flowing San Pedro was peaceful, with a pleasant beach. Nearing the end several folks had enough energy to check out a steam boiler engine and according to John W. it was used as a pump for water. The hike began and ended at the old corrals. Great day! -Sandy

A little bit of history:
This is the old headquarters for the previous land owners, the Boquillas Land & Cattle Company. It was originally part of the San Juan de las Boquillas y Nogales Mexican Land Grant, passed through the hands of the Hearst family, and was sold to Tenneco who had plans to develop the property. In 1986 Tenneco traded it to the BLM and in 1988 it became protected as part of the SPRNCA.

BACKTRACK - Parker Lake & Wine Tasting
15  Mules, more or less, circumnavigated Parker Canyon Lake. Nice hike. Nice Lunch. Beautiful day. Big excitement when Champ saved us all from evil rafters. Hawks yes, but no blue heron this year.
We then celebrated our good fortune at a Sonoita winery. Good wine, gourmet snacks, great company. Just another nice day for the Muleteamers. -John W

BACKTRACK - Mural Hill
Timed nicely between recent snow & rain the weather was fine for the Mural Hill hike with 10 people and only one dog, Sheila. We met Richard at the base of the hill returning from a solo hike, and Jay remained at the base and returned on his own. The rest of us had lunch on top of the world and signed the log book. The steep climb to the top was slippery with snow, especially returning down. And somehow Ken disappeared on the way down, and we waited 15 minutes until he reappeared way off trail climbing out of Mexican Canyon. All was well, and later Ken bought a round of beer at the Brewery for not deserting him. I took the photo below and others are at muleteam.shutterfly.com. -Larry
