Boquillas Ranch

HIKE TO LITTLE BOQUILLAS RANCH & BEYOND
Join the Muleteam this Saturday for an easy hike to the Little Boquillas Ranch, then continuing on to a nice spot on the San Pedro River for lunch. On the way back take time to explore the ranch. The hike is approximately 5-1/2 miles RT on an old dirt road in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. Bring water and lunch. Back mid-afternoon. Meet Jan 26 at 9am by the Old Bisbee courthouse fountain to carpool. Free, but gas donation is appreciated. For more details contact Ken at 432-9152 or kenheusman@yahoo.com.

If you are planning to meet at the trailhead, meet in the parking lot across the road from the Fairbank Schoolhouse on SR82 (by the corrals).

A little bit of history:
This is the old headquarters for the previous land owners, the Boquillas Land & Cattle Company. It was originally part of the San Juan de las Boquillas y Nogales Mexican Land Grant, passed through the hands of the Hearst family, and was sold to Tenneco who had plans to develop the property. In 1986 Tenneco traded it to the BLM and in 1988 it became protected as part of the SPRNCA.

BACKTRACK - Parker Lake & Wine Tasting
15  Mules, more or less, circumnavigated Parker Canyon Lake. Nice hike. Nice Lunch. Beautiful day. Big excitement when Champ saved us all from evil rafters. Hawks yes, but no blue heron this year.
We then celebrated our good fortune at a Sonoita winery. Good wine, gourmet snacks, great company. Just another nice day for the Muleteamers. -John W
