Oversite Canyon

HIKE OVERSITE CANYON
Join the Muleteam this Saturday for a wooded hike in the SW Huachuca Mountains, about 7 miles total-- steep on last stretch to lunch on scenic ridge one mile short of Crest Trail junction. Lunch before climb optional for some. Back the same way. Trail is along a spring-fed stream past the old Happy Jack cabin and an old mine site beyond. Bring water and lunch. Back late afternoon. Meet Feb  9 at 9am by the Old Bisbee courthouse fountain to carpool. Free, but gas donation is appreciated. For more details contact Brad at 432-2476 or bradward.j3@juno.com.

Trailhead info
Drive to the trailhead will be on paved road until reaching the switchback climb to Montezuma Pass in the Coronado National Memorial. From the Pass there will be another 3 or 4 miles on well-maintained dirt road to a turnoff onto a more primitive road, which will become impassable to the average passenger car after about a half mile. Cars will be parked there, and hiking will commence first along the road and then a trail after the road disappears.

BACKTRACK - Mule Ridge
Four dogs and 16 hikers enjoyed dog weather (cloudy and cool) in a climb up the Zacatecas Trail. The Trail was much improved from early this hiking season by persons unknown who repaired water damage. At the Saddle, we went west along the Ridge until we headed back east to join the Locklin Trail for our trip down. It was nice to be joined by new hikers and to see longtime hikers Diane and Wendell again. -John B.

I took the photo on the windy ridge, and other Muleteam photos are at muleteam.shutterfly.com.

SIDETRACK - Muleteam shirts
The recent Muleteam shirts were a hit, and more people have expressed interest. So shirts will now be available to order individually from the local printer, Print & Stitch. The denim shirt has an embroidered Muleteam logo and optional name (or whatever) on the other side. The printer has the job on file, so contact them for cost & details.
