MULETEAM ASCENDS MOUNT BALLARD

Join the Muleteam this Saturday to hike to the highest point in the Mule Mountains, west of the "Divide" with outstanding views of Bisbee, Mexico and the Huachuca Mountains. This is a strenuous hike on a natural path with several steep sections, about 3.4 miles total. (Once at the top a side trip to Fissure Peak is possible  with lots of bushwhacking!) Bring water and snack or lunch. Back early afternoon. Free. Dogs welcome but be aware that there are lots of cholla along the narrow trail.

Meet January 16 at 9 a.m. by the Old Bisbee courthouse fountain, from which we will car-caravan in our separate vehicles to the Divide (no carpooling at this time). Alternatively, hikers may head straight for the Divide and park there. For more details contact Sandy at 520-353-5124 or slajudice@yahoo.com.

Hikers are asked to wear masks, with the exception of those who have difficulty with physical exertion while masked. The latter are asked to maintain a six-foot distance from other hikers.

BACKTRACK - Wood Canyon to Ridge

Thirteen hikers enjoyed a beautiful day, hiking from the end of Wood Canyon up a trail that we learned was created several years ago by four Muleteamers: Ken, Ira, Guy, and Gary. Kudos to them for giving us another lovely place to hike. The trail connected to the Ridge Trail and City Trail, up Zacatecas Canyon, then back to the Ridge Trail and Wood Canyon, a loop of just under 6 miles.  - Sue
