BACKTRACK - Mule Mtn Ridge / Injury

Deb Van Schaak led the hike last Saturday with 19 people. Halfway on the desert trail and about 2 miles from a road Jayne Powell fell and broke her ankle. 

Deb's update:

It was a long day, but what cool heads and wonderful teamwork everyone displayed. I heard more than one comment from the Search and Rescue team about how well the Muleteam handled the accident, so thank you.

I wanted to give you all an update on Jayne's broken ankle, along with contact info if you'd like to reach out to her. Jayne was transported by helicopter directly to Tucson. She broke not just one, but three (!) bones in her ankle and it was determined she'd need surgery. The surgery didn't happen until Sunday, so she spent a second night in the hospital and returned home yesterday. The surgery went well, but she'll have to be non-weight bearing on that foot for 10-12 weeks. 

Last night I spoke with Sara (who was with Jayne in Tucson) and texted Jayne. Jayne expressed her gratitude to the Muleteam, ending with "y'all are a wonderful group of people and I feel like I made some more lifelong friends up on the mountain. Helluva way to do it though!". She'll be in Bisbee for at least two more weeks, and calls, texts, snail mail, and visits would be appreciated. And lastly, Jayne would appreciate any pictures you might have of the rescue.
