Fairbank

HIKE HISTORIC FAIRBANK

Join the Muleteam this Saturday for a walk along the San Pedro River and see the old townsite, mill ruins & graveyard of the Fairbank area. Flat and easy loop trail, but at least 6 miles roundtrip. Back mid-afternoon. Meet Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. by the Old Bisbee courthouse, from which we will car-caravan in our separate vehicles to the River (no carpooling at this time). Alternatively, hikers may meet us at about 9:40 a.m. at the Fairbank Historic Townsite parking lot off Hwy 82 east of the river. For more details contact Larry at sunstudio@cableone.net or 520-224-4951.

Hikers are asked to wear masks, with the exception of those who have difficulty with physical exertion while masked. The latter are asked to maintain a six-foot distance from other hikers.

BACKTRACK - Clanton Ranch

Twenty-one hikers and four dogs enjoyed a mostly level hike on a partly overcast day. We started at the Murray Springs Trailhead and walked along the abandoned Fort Huachuca-to-Lewis Springs rail line and then along the San Pedro Trail, ending up at the historic Clanton Ranch site. The only remains included the foundation and a small section of adobe wall. It was said that the Clantons were cattle rustlers, usually one step ahead of the law. We retraced our steps until we reached the Murray Springs Clovis site trail and had our lunch stop. Many of us then explored the thirteen-thousand-year-old mammoth kill site. - Paul

SIDETRACK - Shirt Pickup

If you have not yet picked up your pre-ordered Muleteam shirts from Larry, he will have them available at the Bisbee courthouse fountain before the Feb. 20 hike. 1. Sorry I didn’t make the hike. Just to clarify, the Douglas Block ruins where this picture was taken are actually the remains of the Lewis Springs schoolhouse dating to the early 1900’s. The small adobe wall was the Clanton site. Sandy
