Slavin Gulch

HIKE UP SLAVIN GULCH

Join the Muleteam this Saturday for a hike in the Dragoon Mountains. The trail is a rocky path and old mining road with huge boulder formations, along a great sand-bottomed creek. It's steady uphill to some old mining ruins and down the same way for a total of approximately 6.8 miles. Bring water, lunch, and maybe a walking stick. The dirt road in can have some ruts and rocks but 4WD isn't necessary, just a medium clearance vehicle. Back late afternoon.

Meet Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. by the Old Bisbee courthouse fountain. From there we will car-caravan in our separate vehicles to the trailhead (no carpooling at this time). Alternatively, hikers may meet us about 9:35 a.m. at the beginning of Middlemarch Road or meet at the trailhead. Free. For more details contact Ken at 520-432-9152 or kenheusman@yahoo.com.

Hikers are asked to wear masks, with the exception of those who have difficulty with physical exertion while masked. The latter are asked to maintain a six-foot distance from other hikers.

BACKTRACK - Fairbank

It was a beautiful warm day for 16 people at the Fairbank hike. We learned a little town history at the trailhead and made a side trip through the old cemetery. Then Ken took a group photo of everyone on the high wall at the mill ruins, and a few portraits were taken with the old car door with the bullet holes. Lunch was at the San Pedro River  which was flowing nicely. Returning along the river path we checked out the old train trestle and the platform of the old depot. What a nice day outside with a mellow group of people. Thanks for hiking with me. - Larry
